Can we bring a picnic?
Yes. We’ve got some beautiful picnic spots across the Botanic Garden and the adjoining Waun Las National Nature Reserve. We also have some outdoor eating tables near our Caffi Botanica which are great if you want to supplement your picnic with a special treat or something you might have forgotten.
Can we bring our dog into the Garden?
Sorry, dogs are not allowed into the Garden on a daily basis (with the exception of guide dogs.) However, we do have regular Doggy Days when you are welcome to walk your pooch in and around the Garden. (Dogs are not permitted into the Tropical House or in the Great Glasshouse.) If I can’t bring my dog in to the Garden, do you have an exercise area for dogs?
Yes, there’s a nice walk around the outer perimeter of Garden. Water is available for dogs from the main visitor entrance.
Do you have under cover parking so I can leave my dog in the shade during the summer months?
No and we do not advocate leaving your dog in your car even in the shade as the interior will still heat up.
Is the Garden wheelchair friendly?
All paths within the formal Garden area (but not Waun Las NNR) are wheelchair friendly and there are several manual wheelchairs available at our Gatehouse.
If you are disabled or have mobility issues, we also have a regular shuttle buggy service to take you to most parts of the Garden including down to the restored parkland and return you to the visitor entrance. Our buggy drivers will also be happy to answer any questions you have about your visit.
If I pay to get in and then need to go out to the car to get items I have forgotten, am I allowed back in again?
Of course. Our visitor services team are very friendly! Just let them know what you are doing.
Is there free parking?
Yes, visitors only have to pay when they enter the Botanic Garden. If you just want to visit our Garden Centre parking is also free.
If we come on cycles or motorbikes, is there somewhere safe we can leave our helmets/bike gear etc instead of carrying it around with us?
Yes, Gatehouse staff will normally keep it in a safe cupboard behind reception for the duration of your visit.
Is this a good place to bring children?
It sure is. The Garden is a large site with lots of places to explore.
We have a dedicated children’s play area full of things to jump about on, crawl through and imaginatively play. We’ve some great engaging indoor exhibitions and Garden-wide trails, sometimes specifically aimed at children.
During school holidays, we always put on activities that the whole family can enjoy together, from making lovely things from plants and pond dipping, to storytelling and meeting Santa.
I’m a member of various organisations - which ones permit me access to the National Botanic Garden of Wales?
The National Botanic Garden of Wales has reciprocal membership arrangements with the following Gardens, thereby permitting their members admission to the Garden of Wales (terms and conditions may apply).
