The marsh fritillary butterfly has declined hugely across the UK due to habitat loss.
Adults can be found on marshy grassland in early summer, and larvae can be found on species of scabious (particularly devil’s-bit-scabious) in webs that they have spun to avoid predation.
Look out for them in the meadows of Waun Las National Nature Reserve, but also in the Wild Garden, where it was first spotted in the Garden in 2019.
