Honey Bee

Apis melifera

The Garden is home to over 250,000 honey bees. They are housed in eight hives in our Bee Garden and are looked after by a volunteer team of beekeepers.

Bees help to pollinate most of the fruit and veg grown in our Double Walled Garden. They also collect nectar and pollen from our wild plants on Waun Las NNR and from many of cultivated plants in our flower beds.

Our Garden scientists, with the help of Garden volunteers, are investigating where the honey bees forage using DNA from honey made by the bees.
