Springwoods

Springwoods has three main seasonal highlights

An east-facing wood which overlooks the Double Walled Garden, Springwoods is carpeted with primroses, snowdrops, daffodils and bluebells in spring.

Late spring to summer sees the flowering of colourful ornamental shrubs such as azaleas, rhododendrons and hydrangeas.

Autumn  produces a fascinating range of fungi – it varies every year but it’s generally a good place to look for amethyst deceivers, milk-caps, funnel-caps and amanitas.

Springwoods is dedicated to Professor Philip Wareing (1914-96) of the University of Wales, Aberystwyth who was a highly respected specialist in plant hormones and tree physiology. Part of his collection of snowdrops has been planted out in this wood.
