Dawn Redwood

Metasequoia glyptostroboides

Until 1941, the dawn redwood tree was thought to be extinct.

It was first known as a fossil then a huge dawn redwood tree was discovered growing around a religious shrine in China.  Seeds from this tree were collected and it is now a popular ornamental tree in parks and gardens around the world.

You can find a circle of dawn redwood trees surrounding our Scaladaqua Tonda water sculpture on the Broadwalk.
