Canary Spurge

Euphorbia canariensis

This looks and feels like a cactus but it isn’t – it’s a great example of convergent evolution.

Whilst cacti were evolving in the deserts of the American continent, the Canary spurge evolved similar characteristics to cope with the arid soils of lowland Canary Islands.
