Introducing Write4word

Ardd Fotaneg · Botanic Garden

At write4word we are committed to championing engagement with language arts through the creative process and participation for positive impact in all aspects of society.

Whether you want to write or share your creative work we are happy to support you. We have worked with adults, young people and children in Wales and abroad. We are enthusiastic and if we have a signature it’s that people leave our sessions with energy, confident in themselves and their writing.

During the Well-being Garden Weekend on May 25th-26th, we will be offering creative writing activities for adults and children.

Dominic will lead an engaging session for adults that will encourage us to leave our preconceptions and baggage at the gate, shut down our worries and ground ourselves and our writing in a different place that will be surprising and slightly wild. You can reserve your place on Dominic’s session by following this link.

Mel will facilitate a writing activity based on the work of Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris in The Lost Words to help children notice, enjoy and write about the small and ordinary in natural history that the gardens have to offer. You can reserve your child’s place on Mel’s session by following this link.

We are published writers from Wales supporting creative writing locally and internationally with the cultural Swedish organisation, Kultivera, we are both in between regular trips to Sweden.

Dominic is a published translator, poet, creative non-fiction writer and editor.  His debut collection “and why we were all going” was published in 2017.  He has been both a guest lecturer and creative mentor for post-graduate students of Creative Writing and has worked creatively with people with substance misuse issues and mental health problems.  Immediately following our sessions at the Gardens Dominic will be heading off to support a group of twenty American writers visiting a course he directs on behalf of the University of Wales Trinity St David.

Mel has two poetry collections published, “Rum Dark Nights” and “Sound the Hollow” which is bilingual in Swedish and English. In addition to working in Sweden Mel is providing creative writing sessions for a group of women survivors of domestic abuse and some of those sessions have been spent enjoying and writing in response to the Botanic Gardens. Mel is looking forward to her regular creative writing week on Bardsey Island/ Ynys Enlli in June year. This will be a welcome break in her studies for an MSc in Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes.
