Bug-eating plants put on a show!

Hungry insect chomping plants go on show at the National Botanic Garden of Wales on Saturday and Sunday August 5-6.

The Carnivorous Plant Society is hosting the event which features a large display of living carnivorous plants, stands for expert advice and plant care, children’s activities, expert talks and plants for sale – so you can buy your very own Venus fly trap!

Promotions officer for the Carnivorous Plant Society, Ian Salter said: “This event offers an excellent opportunity for the expert, the keen and the curious to browse our displays of these fascinating and unusual plants, find out how to grow them and buy some to take home. It is also another very good reason to visit this magnificent garden.”

The show is on from 10am to 5pm both days. Admission is £10.50 for adults with a family ticket (for 2 adults and up to 4 children) priced at £25. There is no additional charge for the carnivorous plant show.

For details about this and other events taking place at the National Botanic Garden email info@gardenofwales.org.uk or call 01558 667149.

The Carnivorous Plant Society was founded in 1978 and is a charitable organisation dedicated to the promotion of carnivorous plants both in the wild and in cultivation, through conservation and education. For more information, visit their website www.thecps.org.uk

Carmarthen Symphonic Wind Band

The Carmarthen Symphonic Wind Band will be performing in the Great Glasshouse on Saturday, August 5th.  The band will be playing from 1.30pm to 4pm, with a 20-minute interval.

The performance will also feature vocal soloist Emma Britton and singing group Frenzaloud.

Summer Craft Fair

The annual summer spectacle of lovely local crafts in a glorious garden setting is happening at the National Botanic Garden of Wales on Saturday and Sunday, August 12-13.
The Garden’s Summer Craft Fair will once again boast 30 stalls of locally hand-crafted products which can be found in the stunning surrounds of Lord Foster’s Great Glasshouse.
There’s a mouth-watering range on offer, too: including jewellery, ceramics, honey, handmade soaps, beeswax candles, quilling, woodwork – and much more. Carmarthen Spinners will be in attendance as well as Pembrokeshire Falconry on Sunday!

Atlas Moth

Come and see the amazing Atlas Moth (Attacus atlas) in the Butterfly House at the moment!  As well as the beautiful and colourful tropical butterflies!

The Atlas moth comes from the tropical forests of south-east Asia, they have no mouths, their wingspans can reach over 25cm, and they have to mate and lay eggs before they die in just 5 days.

Summer Holiday Fun

School’s out for the summer – and there are family activities EVERY day of the school summer holidays here at the National Botanic Garden of Wales!

Enjoy the hay bale maze, water zorbing, our fab play park, and don’t forget to visit the tropical butterflies in Plas Pilipala!

Hawk Adventures are here every Tuesday and Wednesday of the summer holidays, with abseiling, tree climbing or ziplining.

The British Bird of Prey Centre

There are awesome encounters to be had EVERY day at the National Botanic Garden’s brand-new attraction – The British Bird of Prey Centre – with daily flying displays at 11:30am and 2:30pm!

There’s an additional £3 charge to the Centre, and you’ll be able to enjoy amazing flying displays by a Jack Merlin, Red Kites, and Angus, the White Tailed Sea Eagle!

Garden offers Bridge toll discount

Severn Bridge tolls will be axed at the end of next year but did you know you can already get the cost of your crossing back with a visit to the National Botanic Garden of Wales?

Just an hour west of Cardiff and a couple of minutes from the main South Wales M4/A48 superhighway, the Botanic Garden is offering to discount admission to the Carmarthenshire attraction by the cost of your Severn Bridge toll.

Two people paying full price can claim their £6.70 bridge toll discount on production of their Second Severn Crossing receipt.

The Garden’s Head of Marketing David Hardy said: “It’s the least we can do. A lot of people see the tolls as a tax on tourism because it discourages visitors, which is why we are running the offer – and the end of next year is still a long way off which means there’s plenty of time to claim your discount.”

* The Botanic Garden admission discount only applies to two or more people paying the full adult admission price. The offer only applies to valid tickets issued to Vehicle Category 1 vehicles. Severn Bridge toll tickets must be dated within a month of your Garden visit ion. Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer. No photocopies.
